The Brief

Microsoft required a hyper-detailed product film for the unannounced Elite Series 3 controller. The focus was entirely on the micro-textures: the rubberized grips, the cold steel of the paddles, and the matte finish of the triggers.

To achieve this, we built a bespoke macro lighting rig in Houdini to simulate physical photography setups exactly.

The Process

The production heavily relied on procedural texturing. We didn't just map textures; we generated the rubber bump maps mathematically to ensure absolute photorealism even when the camera was millimeters away.
